Hi All,
We are heading to Riyadh in mid June.
We have a 9 year old daughter with Coeliac Disease. I'm anxious about what products are available there - are there stores that sell gluten free products?
We are very spoilt here in Australia as there are so many wonderful products (fresh and premix) available - such a great choice.
Can someone please give me a very very simple gluten free bread recipe using flours that should be readily available in Riyadh?
Also, the big supermarkets - do they stock international gluten free products (for example -Australian: Orgran, Melindas, Norganic????)
Hope to hear back from you all!
Thanks

Salma, I'd love it if you'd share your sister's shopping experience you mention below with us. Our site, GlutenFreeTravelSite, has partnered with Gluten Free Faces to provide our search/mapping technology to access our global gluten-free dining and travel reviews via the "Gluten Free Maps" tab on the top right of this page. We have a huge database of reviews of U.S.-based restaurants (and stores, hotels/resorts, and cruises), but we'd love to hear more about places in Egypt...our site is currently lacking in reviews/feedback from that area of the world. The more reviews that are submitted to our site, the more it helps folks here on Gluten Free Faces (and other Celiacs using our site). It helps people planning trips to Egypt and also benefits the stores and restaurants that so kindly cater to our gluten-free community (they all benefit from the free publicity). So if you could take a few minutes and Submit a Review to our site, we'd so appreciate it!

Yes, for those of you who haven't tried Schar pasta, it is the best -- and the closest thing to true gluten pasta.

Hi everyone...I just wanted to update you on an important new enhancement to GlutenFreeTravelSite ( http://www.glutenfreetravelsite.com ). In addition to a streamlined new home page, we have added the ability to narrow your search of our database of 800+ gluten-free dining and travel reviews to the town/city level. The results come up on a Google map, and you can click on any establishment to read the user-submitted review.

To try it out, you can go to Search Reviews ( http://www.glutenfreetravelsite.com/search.php ), choose a broad geographic location, and then click on the "narrow your search" link OR you can go directly to the mapping page at ( http://glutenfreetravelsite.com/maps/map-locator.php ).

We are proud to be the only review-focused site where you can get personal, detailed feedback on some of the world's most Celiac-friendly restaurants, grocery stores, hotels/resorts, and cruises. And you won't just find the "same old" list of chain restaurants you find on "directory-style" sites. Most places reviewed are independent restaurants, stores, and even B&B's you may not have even heard about.

We would very much love your help with something...please submit your own gluten-free dining reviews of your favorite local places -- or places you've traveled. That way, we can continue to help others on gluten-free diets find new and safe places to eat. We'd love some more reviews from the Middle East! It's super-easy and just takes a few minutes. Just go to Submit Review ( http://www.glutenfreetravelsite.com/submit.php )

Hi everyone! I have been reading the post and I have lived in the middle east over the years. From Jordan to Saudi. I found that i could get rice flour and tapioca in both regions. But for health conscious reasons I try to use nut flours most of the time like chestnut, almond, walnuts which is plentiful in those areas. The most important to understand about using nut flour you need to use more eggs to get the volume. You can get away with using garbonzo flour which is good for making cookies because the flavor of the flour is toned down with the use of the brown sugars. also a tip if you cannot find quar gum, zantham gum then use beef gelatin instead. There are so many things I have learned over the last 10 years and it takes some experimenting but it can happen. Also most of those regions carry bob's red Mill and that is a great product to buy. I seen it at the GNC in Saudi and they took the time to order it for me also. Good luck and take care..

Has anyone in your group tried tiger nut flour. I have had it tested with the Celiac Sprue Association here in the states ,it test under 5ppm for wheat and is great when added to a good flour blend.
Please visit our website, www.mixesfromtheheatland.com We ship overseas and are adding staples to the site like flours, pasta, and more in bulk bags. Contact me and I will see what I can do to help in shipping. Teri
