Nickels for Nonprofits, Your Prescription Stories, Health Fair and Other Outreach Opportunities:

CSA doesn’t market itself as some other celiac organizations do, but it has a long history of working with the FDA and other governmental agencies and with advocacy groups such as the Digestive Diseases National Coalition. Again this month, CSA will participate in an FDA hearing, this one on FDA regulation of medical products (including drugs) for rare diseases (yes, celiac disease is considered a rare disease in this context). If you have had an adverse reaction from a medication due to gluten, please contact CSA at 1-877-272-4272 or celiacs@csaceliacs.org to share your story, or you can email Diane.

Whole Foods at 4315 Arden Way (corner of Eastern) is featuring our CSA chapter’s activities (described as Celiac Disease Support and Outreach) as part of their Nickels for Nonprofits program, now through July 4. Bring your cloth bags (or even your old paper bags) to contain your groceries and you can choose to “recycle” each nickel bag credit to our chapter. Thank you! Thanks also to our volunteers, who will be hosting our information booth there several times this month. As health fair season ramps up, we need these nickels, because…

Did you know that our chapter gives away thousands to Celiac Disease: The Basics CSA brochures each year? That we participate in an average of 12 health fairs per year? That 3,000 people will attend the Safetyville health fair on June 12, where we again will have a table (including gluten-free samples)? That Joan appreciates our regular volunteer team but could use your additional help? (Contact Joan to sign up)

Restaurant Outing, Big Spoon Yogurt, Saturday, June 12, 1:30-2:30 pm Meet friends (gluten-free and otherwise) at Big Spoon in East Sacramento (3644 J Street) from 1:30-2:30pm on June 12. No rsvp needed.

Sacramento (Watt/ElCamino) Support Meeting, Sunday, June 13, 1:30 – 4:00 pm Because Xocai Healthy Chocolate is gluten-free, it is appropriately named for us. Xocai representative Suzanne Schaff will conduct a demo and sampling at our meeting, held in the Fireside Room at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 2391 St. Marks Way, Sacramento. Experienced celiacs, please bring a gluten-free snack to share, including the recipe or package (this information helps those with additional food sensitivities).

Davis Support Meeting, Saturday, June 19, 12:30-2:00 Please join this growing group at Davis Lutheran Church, Davis Lutheran Church, 317 East 8th Street in Davis. Contact: Susan with any questions. Experienced celiacs, please bring a gluten-free snack to share, including the recipe or package.

No Downtown Sac or Placerville Support Meetings this month. Meetings at these locations will resume in July.
