Hi all,  I am hoping that someone can offer some suggestions about regaining your energy level.  While I feel so much better living a gluten free lifestyle - I still do not have the energy that I use to and eating healthy hasn't helped that much.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I am taking normal multi vitamins and I see where doctors offer these Max vitamins to those of us that have Celiac or Gluten intolerance but they cost about $35 per month. Do they help with energy and are they worth it?  Can they be gotten other places cheaper?  All suggestions are very much appreciated!

Angela, I take a liquid B complex. It is sublinqual. If I take to much, it causes insomnia! I dont take other vitamins but do take enzymes daily (well...almost daily!).

Hope this helps!

I've tried a lot, but the only things that has made any noticable difference is drinking enough water and exercise. My vitamin levels are correct, etc ,etc so I don't plan on spending more and more money.

I'm with both Jen and Nancy, I take 10,000 mcg of methylated b12 a day (my body does not methylate on it's own). I also exercise at least 6 days a week. Some days are good and I can get some great cardio in, while other days I just do what I can. Either way I can tell the difference if I do nothing at all. I am much more tired and my neuropathy is worse (that or I just notice the pain more since I am sedentary).
It may sound funny that a cure for fatigue can be exercise, but it is true. Get your blood flowing, your endorphins moving, and your metabolism up, you'll feel great.

I was just going to post a similar question in the forum :) Love this site! Where do you ladies get your vitamins? I heard gluten free ones can be harder to find.

Hello all! So here are a few suggestions that have worked for me. I'm not an expert and my situation is a little more complex. I lost my large intestine in all this mess so I don't absorb anything without help and I am dehydrated all the time. I'm also nursing a 5 month old almost exclusively. The few things I have done seem to help. I take a gummi vitamin. The ones that I take are from Costco and say GF on the bottle. The brand is vitafusion and I take the Multi Vites. They have 200% B6 and B12 in them. I also take VSL#3 probiotics every other day. It seems to calm my gut and helps with energy. Probably because it helps to absorb more of what I'm eating. I also take L-carnitine 250mg every other day. I am wired if i take it every day. I plan on buying tablets next time and trying cutting the dose in half to see if it is better. I feel great when I take the L-carnitine. No high and crash like so many energy supplements. I've also lost 4 pounds since starting them 2 weeks ago. Lots of water (I'm horrible at this). I can't exercise but I try to at least walk every day and it helps a lot. I also eat smaller meals throughout the day (bad absorption=hungry all the time). I hope this helps a bit. :)

Dont have all your hopes on all these fake vitamins. The best form of energy is in its simplest form such as raw fruits, raw vegetables and raw nuts. It will be difficult for you at first since for most people system is not used to having so much pure substances. What I recommend you get is a blender called vitamix and make some green smoothies add organic kale or organic spinach then to hide the bitternes add fruits like bananas, mango, papaya, etc as you like. Now youre system will go through a detox so you will feel tired and different people get different side effects. Start with one green smoothie a day then push up to two and then finally make three a day. I also recommend that when doing this try to eat meat mostly during lunch only.

I hate the thought of taking any kind of a pill on a daily basis - even a vitamin.
Eating plenty of fruits and veggies (you will get your vitamins), drinking lots of water, getting enough sleep and exercise is usually the answer to most questions like yours.
It is true that the more you exercise the more energy you will have.
Of course, that is just my opinion :)

with all my sensitivities, I've discovered (at least 3 times over) that I feel best NOT taking vitamins. I have no idea if it is the binders or what but any I take are free of all "junk" that we want/need to avoid so I know it isn't for that reason. I concluded that it is for a reason that either I don't know, "they" don't know or "they" aren't saying so I'll do it the old fashion way. Now, if I could completely eat the old fashion way before we found ways in which to engineer everything we see...I bet I'd feel good. I truly believe that.

I would have to agree that trying to get most of your nutrients from food is best, however for people like myself I need to supplement some. For example, my body does not methylate so I take methylated b12 everyday.
I eat NOTHING that is processed with the exception of Food for Life Rice torillas and Mrs Leepers Rice pasta. I eat tons of spinach and other leafy greens, fresh fruit and only organic white meats (free range when I can find it). I drink lots of water and NEVER eat cane sugar or dairy.
As for L-carnitine, it is not a vitamin but a naturally occuring amino acid that the body uses for fuel. For some of us this amino acid is not longer produced in the way it used be.
I am NOT an advocate of stuffing pills down our throats, however I do believe there are times supplements not only can work they may be neccesary in the recovery process. As always, consult with your doc. and hopefully you can find a Narual Path like I did. I do take supplements when my dysbiosis is out of control (most of the time). I will also take fish oil everyday for my MS symptoms eventhough I eat fish 3-4 times a week.

I must say exercise is KEY!!!!

I eat tons of fruits and vegetables, but it simply isn't enough. I eat very healthy, and until I found out about my gluten intolerance I couldn't understand why someone so healthy could feel so sick. Even before I was diagnosed I had to go and have inter-venous iron as my stomach would not (and still doesn't) absorb it from my food. I have also been on b12 injections for the past 5 years, one cc a month. So I think that it is very important for me to still take some sort of supplement in hopes that some of it will get absorbed. I don't like taking any types of pills either, that is why I was wondering what the best ones to take are, so I don't go and take a whole bunch. I have been doing much better though - I am down to half of the antidepressants I was on and I am finding that I do not require my Adderall or Nuvigil to get me going in the morning :)

My dietician suggested the small meals several times a day because I am over-weight and have type 2 diabetes. My sister "grazes" (that's what she calls it) because she had trouble with her appetite after her Chemo and radiation treatments. I am thinking that it is probaly healthier for everyone, though, because you are less likely to over eat and your food is easier to digest (because there isn't s much of it at a time)
Maybe I am full of crap - but it works for us.

Thanks every one for all of the suggestions. As a whole - I do eat pretty healthy, meaning I eat as clean as possible. I eat fruits and vegetables every day and protein such as poultry, fish and red meat - but not more than 2 per week. I do drink a lot of water - and I am taking a multi vitamin. I do try and do exercise - cardio daily for at least 30 min - but that has become hard for me. I use to do an hour every morning but can't seem to keep that up anymore. I see a lot of sites that promote their vitamins that run about $35 - does anyone know what makes them so expensive? I am not sure I understand what the methylated b12 does? Guess I still have a lot more research to do, but I appreciate everyone's help!
