I know this is something we talked about before but I cannot find it on the discussion board.Does anyone else have an intolerance to fruit/fructose? My endoscopy on Monday showed some healing from 2yrs ago, yeah. Mucosal thinning still present and the doc said it appears I have a fructose intolerance. I confirmed that this weekend when I ate a few bites of pineapple (bloating, pain, burning).

All the nurses did not seem suprised, in fact they acted like this is common place amongst celiac. I remember them saying something about sugar of any kind and us celiacs with lots of damage is a recipe for disaster. Gosh, why don't they warn us about this when we are dx'd. I feel like I could have saved myself a lot of pain and money had I known fruit could be a culprit. Now grant it I live on like 6 things, so lots of things are to blame but when I cut out fruit I was amazed how much better I felt (I did this on my own about three weeks ago).

Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I am dealing with some good ole foggy brain ;p

What are your experiences with fruit?

I have intolerance to fructose, pineapple gives me bloating and burning too; citrus fruits especially grapefruit sets it off too; my body agrees well with berries and melons; I read my labels to see what type of sugar is in what I eat, if it doesn't say sugar alot of times it says fructose which is just as bad, I stopped eating jams even if it says they organic and sweetened naturally because those still have loads of added fructose; I visited my dietician last week, she confirmed to me that anyone with celiac disease and IBD will have intolerance to fructose, she recommends I only drink 1/2 cup of unsweetened fruit juice daily and get the rest of my daily quota from fruit. I hear you on the foggy brain part, I feel like that 24/7, I'm still striving for good intestinal health, I wish you all the best in achieving digestive health :)
