Hello! Does anyone have a favorite place to eat that has been accommodating or actually serves gluten free meals?

A restaurant chain in Paducah Kentucky called The Pasta House has a special gluten free menu. Being able to walk into a restaurant and asking for a gluten free menu without getting that confused vacant look from the waiter is so wonderful. They've always been very nice and understanding. They've got a few different pastas that made me feel like a normal human in an italian restaurant!

I have gone to Uno Chicago Grill in St. Louis and had their gluten free pizzas. The first time I ordered was a super busy night, valentines. But after I ordered, about 15 minutes later, even before our salads came out, the manager came with my pizza. He explained that their head chef worked on my pizza in a gluten free area and that if I had any problems I should ask for him specifically. The pizza was great, the crust reminded me a lot of Chebe pizza crust.

We found Matteo's Pizza randomly while we were looking online for gluten free restaurants in Nashville. It was in a nicer upscale area, but when you went inside it looked more like it was made out of someone's garage. The gluten free pizza was FANTASTIC though. It actually had some body, a thicker crust then any other I've ever had. They even deliver. I sure wish I lived in Nashville.

Also my favorite gluten free bakery of all time is Andrea's Fine Foods in St. Louis. It's outside of the main city and kinda in a weird area, but the food that comes out of that place is AMAZING. It's the best gluten free bread I've ever had. I often make orders with them, buying around 3-4 loaves of bread and 2-3 cases of hamburger buns. The bread has an amazing flavor, it holds up really well as a sandwich or hamburger. It's one of the only breads that tastes fantastic without being toasted.

Hey Gabrielle -

I'm not too familiar with the Paducah area, but a great site you should check out is http://www.celiachandbook.com/kentucky.html. It basically gives you a rundown of gluten-free restaurants in your area. The site will also let you know if the restaurants have separate gluten-free menus, which is always a plus!

I'm out in Southern California, and a great restaurant chain that we have that caters to Celiacs is PF Changs. I'm not sure if there is one near you, but if there is, check it out!

It's been good to see so many restaurants lately actually start making gluten-free foods...another pizza chain, Z Pizza, also has started to make gluten-free pizza crusts. Z Pizza has been expanding into a ton of new states, so they just might be opening one up near you!

Chad - I'm not a fan of those 'link' pages with gluten free restaurants. Mostly because it's just big chains, most of them are out of date, and they never list smaller or local places. Often if I'm about to travel to another area, I do a wide search to find information on new places I can eat. Blogs are still my favorite place to gather information. Also, I'm originally from Catalina Island. I didn't have celiac when I lived there back in high school, so I never went looking for places in SoCal. It's always nice to hear about other places that cater to our diets, I'll be visiting in October so I'll take any information you have.

I'd like to list a few new places to my list. We went to Holiday World in Santa Claus Indiana as a late birthday trip. They have a menu online of a few different items they sell that are allergy free in the park. Holiday World is a small little park, with a few great rides. It's clean and nice and people are really willing to help out, it's a great little place to visit. And when it comes to helping you with your food issues they are ready to jump in and help. A lot of their food is pre packaged, I am not a fan of Ian's Gluten Free food, but I tried it. Even though it wasn't all that great, I could actually eat something at a theme park. It was a big first for me.

Also while we were coming back we took a stop in Evansville Indiana and ate dinner at Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano restaurant. I had heard they serve some gluten free pasta dishes and I thought I'd give it a chance. They actually have a special gluten free menu that looks the same as all the other ones. There are tons of things to choose from, and you feel like you fit right in with everyone else eating. The pasta was fantastic! There were so many choices I was so surprised!

Anyone else have restaurants they wanna share?

in toronto area just found a great bakery! LPK's downtown sooo good! Acron bakery in waterloo is really good too... I like to support the little chains too but like to know all the bigger chains for when I travel. Heading to NYC this summer and have been to babycakes and a few other places but not all serve dairy free and I cant have dairy either.

New York City - Risotteria Restaurant for GF appetizers, bread sticks, salads, pizza (oh so good! so much better than Unos), risotto, and Panini; of course, Babycakes, and there is a Macaroni Rest. too that my son goes to. We also went to Caracas Arape Bar and had some fried sweet plantains and arapes w/out misshap.

Minneapolis, MN - Wildfire Restaurants have a good gf menu and they even serve you your own gf bread in a basket when they bring out the other. Biaggis is there too. And Bittersweet Bakery is a wonderful dedicated GF bakery. I gain 10 lbs just walking in the door! Plus most of the major chains.

Bentonville, AR - this for now is home. We have a lot of the chains now. Also locally owned World Garden prepares some sandwiches, pizzas, and desserts gf. The local Mexican places like Acambaros and La Hacienda are safe as long as you stick to the non-flour tortillas and no chili sauces. Then there is Curry at the Thai places. One in Fayetteville has a fantastic Duck Curry.

If you are traveling to Minneapolis/St. Paul, check out the Twin Cities Gluten-Free Shop & Dine. It's a free Google interactive map, showing all the restaurants and stores that cater to those on a GF diet: http://sites.google.com/site/tcgfsd
I learned how to create a google map through a project at work, and realized it would be a perfect application for this. I am amazed how many places there are in our community where I know I can enjoy a good meal!

Has anyone tried Pei Wei? They've got a great selection of Gluten Free awesomeness. You can get chicken that's fried and battered, but it's in potato flour. It's fantastic, it's just the right amount of crunch you miss eating gluten free. They've got locations all over the place.

The Cordova, TN. (outside Memphis) PeiWei has a 3" GF menu. I wonder why the restaurants' menus vary so much.
