A recent review article (on http://tinyurl.com/gfdiet ) describes that up to 60% of diagnosed celiacs is not 100% GF (intentionally or non-intentionally). Many people found it unlikely that highly symptomatic celiacs cheat on the diet. What's your experience??

100%. I have not regained my health so I make everything from scratch, never eat out and read labels like a hawk. My digestive system thanks me but fatigue, etc hasn't listened too well

I'm 100%...I have a wheat allergy in addition to being celiac so I'm not taking any chances...my allergic reaction to wheat & gluten just isn't worth it.

Hi Nancy,
For me too fatigue doesn't listen too well to the diet. I'm 100% GF, but still feel tired most of the time even after 3 years following the diet.

100%; it takes only touching a surface that had a gluten item on it, then putting something in my mouth with the hand that touched that surface for my intestines, both small and large, to start strangling me. It's very painful and frightening. I don't cheat on this diet.

I cannot attest to what I am exposed to or what is air borne. But what I put in my mouth and on my body is totally GF.

I still feel crappy, but not nearly as bad as before I was GF. This is a huge, long process for me.

I feel very lucky to simply be gluten-intolerant and not full blown celiac - at least this is what I have been told. I guess we can't be sure unless I were to have a biopsy, which I haven't.

I find it tempting to cheat sometimes because I don't feel symptoms immediately. Sometimes it takes up to a couple days for my system to start telling me something is wrong. So I sometimes think....well....I'll just have a bite. And then later in the week, I'll be paying for it. :-\

Yes, 100% 100% of the time. With all the possible side effects and cancers, people are foolish to think they can cheat and it won't matter.

100%. Since a year after my change in diet I'm reacting in about 30 minutes if there is only a waft of gluten in the air (ok, ok, in the food)

My reaction to gluten is immediate, which is another reason why I have to be 100% compliant all of the time. The immediate reactions are:

My nose immediately stuffs up. My face gets very full and puffy. My eyes feel very heavy. I cannot stay awake and have been known to fall asleep (pass out) immediately. When I awaken, I have a horrific headache (worst than any hangover), extreme nausea, black eyes, swollen bridge of my nose and total brain fog. Constipation stays where I don't poop for about 10 days (and that begins another host of problems).

So for me, it's totally diet compliant.

i cam not say i am 100% because of my environment, i try my best to keep the area i use gluten free but i live with 5 other people and it's just impossible. then when i eat out i am usually ok, but i had a reaction from something a few weeks back and it became hard to breath.

i try to be 100% gluten free, but i know i am not.

I'd say I'm 99% gluten free. My husband isn't so he does make food that has gluten in our kitchen. I don't cheat anymore (Which I did a lot during my first couple of months after finding out, corndogs are my weakness), I've got our local chinese restaurant using my gluten free flour for my meals and using gluten free sauce but they do still cook gluten filled food in the same woks.

I'm not sensitive enough feel cross contamination like some people do (Thank God) but I don't cheat on purpose anymore.

100% and than some. I make everything from scratch, including spices. I grow as much veggies as I can get in my yard, I NEVER eat out, and take my own food whenever going to friends. I never lick envelopes, stamps or anything like that. I am also learning to make my own lotions and chap stick.

WOW, that wore me out just thinking about. LOL But I would never go back to the way I was.
It is interesting that I never knew how much pain I was really in until I began to heal. Too bad it takes so long to get diagnosed. It took nearly 10 years to get a doctor that even test me.

I am GF, CF, sugar, rice, corn, potato, and yeast free.
